creative endevours

before

after

Hey Guys,

i had a really good time a few days ago at the academy. we were asked to create a very creative shot and it was no holds barred, so you can just imagine my excitement when i heard this. for my model i chose my friend, Marian and truth be told she is one of the most photogenic people on the planet. you can see all of her graphic design and illustration work here

with that being said, my theme was a parrot. its lush electric blue feathers and the way pinks, greens and yellows play around it just simply makes me stand in awe. it suits marian's personality as well because she was eccentric, quite chatty (in a good way) and just open to the world.

now your favourite part, how to recreate this.

  1. start with a clean face. add primer around the face but avoid the eye area as some primers will tend to sting the eye.
  2. conceal the eye area. never use foundation because of some foundations contain sunscreen that can sting when applied around the eye area. once concealing is done, apply some translucent powder to set the concealer.
  3. create the eyebrows. never EVER go overboard with your eyebrows. always lightly apply dark brown eyeshadow and clear mascara OR gel liner in brown to fill the brows.
  4. once you have your brows, start your smokey eye technique by filing in the lid with some electric blue eyeshadow. dont apply too much, just slowly build it up.
  5. next, apply your hot pink shadow on the socket area and blend this with the electric blue. bring the pink colour to the bridge of your nose and have the ends sharp to create an edge for a more "bird-like" effect.
  6. next blend the pink shadow with some gold over the brow bone. this will give your look depth and definition.
  7. apply gold eyeliner around the lids. this will boost up the look further and create the feature on the eyes. then apply black eyeliner near and close to the lashline to help the lashes look fuller. curl your lashes and apply a coat of mascara to finish it of.
  8. apply your base. it must be seemless and perfect because the focus has to be on the eyes.
  9. lastly, apply your lashes (i used napoleon perdis birds of paradise $22.00) make sure that the colourful part stays out on the end to pop the eyes and have a bird like effect that it has opened its wings.
there you go, thats my creative look. there are more looks to come so stick around!

cheers!

I'm Back!

Hey Everyone!

wow, it's been a while since i've blogged and i got to say, i miss doing it on a daily basis. there's such so much going on that i barely have enough time to update this and i do apologize about that. why you may ask? it is because i am studying for a proper makeup artist certificate (wohoo!) that way i can work as a fully pledged makeup artist, freelance or counter. :)

the next few blogs will be the looks that i have created over the time i was away. coming up with this one look that i wore to a friends recital. instead of the standard black smokey eye, i substituted this with brown, added a dash of eyeliner and lots of mascara to make your eyes pop! i'm not going to go any further than this simply because i have done this look before and just changed the colour.

i'll be uploading more gorgeous stuff soon! until then, ciao kids and stay pretty!

diablo 3 look

greetings from the passenger seat of my sisters car! she had to drop me off to work cause its diablo 3 launch!! :) woooo!!
for those gals or guys who haven't heard of diablo, its the most anticipated game of the year. its almost 10 years or so in the making and it involves saving new tristram from the clutches of the demon diablo.  i wont go into too much detail of that though. after all, you guys are just after my look for today. :)
the make up was pretty much inspired by the game cover. start with your perfect foundation base.  next add a dash of rust coloured eyeshadow on your eyelids. get a soft square blensing blush and blend inwards a soft taupe colour on your crease to give an edgier look. next take your red lipliner (yes, you read it right, the same exact one you use on your lips) and smudge it on your lids, blending it with your rust coloured eyeshadow to give it a more red tinge.
next grab your black eyeliner and apply a line near your lashes. it can be a bit thick but dont go to overboard. when this is done, take your gold eyeliner and apply a thin line on top of your black eyeliner still trying to come as close to your lash line. :) then, curl your eyelashes and apply a coat of mascara to the top and bottom lash to pop your eyes open.
lastly, apply a thin layer of bronzer on your cheeks to give you that go. leave your lips with nude lipstick or lipbalm and your set. :)
now im off to play diablo. i happen to be one of those waiting for it :)
ciao loves!!

the natural look.

hi guys!!
just got back from uni and i have an hour before i get going for fencing training. so as a little treat for you guys, heres a little make up trick to make your ordinary day face look more spectacular!
first start with your foundation base. make sure its the same shade as your skin. if you cant find one that exactly matches, get a shade darker than your skin. next, add a dash of concealer under your eyes, the side of your nose and your blemishes. blend with a brush or your fingers to even it out.
after you perfect your base, grab a pencil/gel or liquid eyeliner and make a thin line just above your eyelashes. only do the one near the eyelid, this will make your eyes pop and your eyebags less droopy. now, grab a powder brush and dab a bit of powder on top of the eyeliner to give it a bit of staying power. now curl those lashes and add a bit of mascara and viola! your eyes are giving off some good vibes.
lastly, select a nice warm colour of blush, smile in front of your mirror and swirl them on your cheeks. dab a small bit of gloss on your lips and your good to go!
total time for this look is about 10 mins. i do this alot before i go to uni and it does help bring out a bit more than just a powdered face.
thanks for reading guys! final product shown on the image. now im off to training!!

just keep swimming

hi guys!

taking my break from uni assignments, i created this look in less than 20 minutes. good record for anyone who thinks putting on make up was such a horrible, painstaking long process to do!

colours were inspired by dory, the little fish from the reef from finding nemo. i was watching the movie while editing some client work and i figured why not take a break? eyeshadow colours are royal blue, light blue and gold. eyeliner used was also blue and gold. cheeks were light peached and lips are just a touch of nude, so it doesn't overpower the eyes.

anyway, enjoy! im off to finish work!

smokey and red

two of the looks i love creating when im going out-smokey eyes or red lips. :)

rule of thumb: never combine the two! UNLESS, you're deliberately trying to scare someone into coma or your into the whole i wanna be a vampire craze. when your applying make up on your face, always pick one feature that you would like to highlight, whether it may be your eyes, lips or your cheekbones. NEVER do all of them at once, otherwise you will be mocked for life as a clown. (i've been on that stretch before and believe me its never good!).

Always try to keep these looks simple. some of you might say my smokey isn't dark enough and it looks a bit pale. its not. but look at it this way, too much black around the eye tend to be a bit dirty and will make you look like a racoon. keep the emphasis on your eyes by applying soft peach blush on your cheeks and a touch of pink/nude lipstick/gloss. for the lips however, you can wear this by just applying and contouring your eyes with brown eye shadow and a bit of eyeliner to help complete the look, but DONT go overboard, minimalism is the key for tame eyeshadow/red lip combo. also, choose a red colour that suits your skin tone. i like to use matte lipstick, they last longer and they dont make my lips shine as if i just drank from a jar of olive oil :)

if you noticed, i took this with my digital camera (the cheap compact ones and not the one i use for photoshoots) to emphasize the idea that this is a look anyone can wear at any give day. hope this helps you gals out there who just need something to wear outdoors!

all the best gals! stay beautiful!

Lets go back to the 60's!

It was probably one of the most popular eras that society today still get inspiration from. I know i do and i absolutely love everything about it.

so for this look, I got my inspiration from miss twiggy, who was a very famous supermodel in those times (and im pretty sure up til now! ) who rocked this look with a bumblee hairstyle and striped shirt. sadly, my hair isn't as long enough to do a bumblebee style hairdo so i just tied my hair up with a hairband. sadly as well, no luck so far in trying to find my striped shirt, so i used one of my work dresses to cope with the look.

i will do this look again, mainly because i wanna experiment with a friend of mine. i'll keep you guys posted.

tata for now!

inspired by barbie

I have to admit, I used to own a barbie doll when i was a kid. I think most girls my age came to that stage at some point. I remembered that tried to cut her hair and tied it up in a really funny way cause i cut it wrong and how i make her face up by putting markers on her face. I think thats how i started to find make up fascinating. LOL :)

so years later, when I grew out of love for barbie, i saw this campaign by MAC about how they were using barbie as an inspiration for their new line of make up, so i thought i'd give that a go. i quite like the play of green and pink eyeshadow and how the black eye liner completes the look further.

thats about it for now, i reckon i have to get back with study for uni
until then, stay awesome!

that punk thang. :)

For those who don't know, I used to be a really hardcore punk rock girl back in high school. I would always have black eye liner on and on casual days, I would always wear a black shirt and cargo shorts with my worn out converse, which funnily enough, i still use today :)

Of course, I came a long way from that and the about a month ago, I missed it. So, as tribute to my childhood self, I created a punk rock inspired look, still with black eye liner, but with a but more "oomph!" to it :)
the original idea for this came from one of my favorite make up artists, Rae Morris  in which he did the make up for australian model, Rubi Rose

more to come on my next few shots or if i get out from uni work :)

harry potter crazed!

im probably on of those giant fans of harry potter and it was such a shame when the final book finished.  so as my tribute to those fans out there, here are some make up shenanigans that i made a few month back :)

i might do this again sometime soon, hopefully with better angles and shades of colours. after all, this was my first HP inspired look.

the black swan

hi everyone!

so some of you might be familiar with this look and for those who are not, they're from the movie the black swan. it's not very makeup-esque as some might put it and in fact my dad actually complained that this character doesn't suit me. but i told him in the end i was just fascinated with the mask :)

this is look is quite good for dress up parties, just wear it with a ballerina tutu and put your hair up and you are good to go.

signing out now!
